Description	Spontaneous recovery of a fertilized grassland after stopping the treatment was studied in experimental plots established in 1968. The fertilization regime was stopped in 1989, phytosociological relevés were made in 1990, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2003 and 2006. Both time and nutrients significantly influenced the vegetation pattern. Treatments differed significantly in species richness. During the 16 years after fertilization ceased, the number of species substantially increased in all the plots and spontaneous recovery after cessation of fertilizing was relatively efficient.
