| - Filtration beds of sub-surface horizontal-flow constructed wetlands (HF CWs) are generally considered as anoxic or anaerobic and, therefore it is assumed that the outflow concentration of dissolved oxygen (DO) is usually very low. The experiments focused on nitrification and sulfate-reduction as processes occurring under strictly aerobic and anaerobic conditions, respectively. The data revealed that in systems with very low outflow concentrations of DO nitrification was frequently very limited but in some systems a substantial reduction of ammonia occurred. On the other hand several systems with relatively high O2 outflow concentrations provided nearly zero removal of ammonia. The similar unanimous results were observed for sulfate, i.e. high O2 outflow concentrations were sometimes connected with high reduction of sulfate and on the other hand low O2 outflow concentrations were not connected with sulfate reduction. - Koncentrace rozpuštěného kyslíku na odtoku z kořenových čistíren je většinou velmi nízká. Z tohoto důvodu se předpokládá, že většina dějů ve filtračních polích kořenových čistíren jsou děje anoxické nebo anaerobní. Terénní měření však ukazují, že v některých kořenových čistírnách dochází k poměrně vysokému stupni oxidace amoniaku přesto, že koncentrace kyslíku na odtoku je téměř nulová. Na druhou stranu v některých čistírnách dochází k výraznému snížení koncentrace síranů při relativně vysoké koncentraci rozpuštěného kyslíku na odtoku. Na základě měření z více než 40 kořenových čistíren se zdá, že podle koncentrace rozpuštěného kyslíku na odtoku nelze usuzovat na děje probíhající ve filtračním loži. (cs)
