Description	The essence of protohistorical research is above all a comparative analysis of written and archaeological sources from the background of two worlds - the Roman and the Germanic. It is especially significant for the subject of the so-called Maroboduus Empire and the problem of Central European Barbaricum. My conviction stems most of all from fact that we are far from having extracted everything we can from the archaeological sources, the analysis of which is a tedious and demanding process. The key to understanding Maroboduus´ Empire, the oldest tribal alliance of the Suebi with the eastern Germans (Lugii), shoud be sought right at the centre of this tribal alliance - in Bohemia. Without a thorough inspection of the specific archaeological sources of the early phases B1 and their context, the portrayal of Maroboduus´ Empire will remain only a repetition of the historical facts we already know, from time to time challengend by arguments of diverse interpretative views.
