Description
  • The research aim was to determine effects of organic selenium supplemented to broiler feed in increased amounts on the selenium content and fatty acid profile in broiler muscle tissue. The research was carried out on 60 male Ross 308 broilers that were fattened for 42 days. During the first three weeks of fattening all broilers were fed starter diet balanced at 22% of crude protein and 13.90 MJ/kg ME. After day 21, broilers were divided into tree experimental groups, and each group was given separately prepared finisher diets that contained 18% of crude protein and 14.67 MJ/kg ME. The content of organic selenium in the finisher diet was as following: P1=0.0 mg Se/kg of feed, P2=0,3 mg Se/kg of feed and P3=0,5mg Se/kg of feed. It was determined that the group P3 had significantly higher content of selenium in breast muscle tissue (0.265 mg Se/kg of tissue) than group P2 (0.183 mg Se/kg of tissue) and P1 (0.087 mg Se/kg of tissue, P{0.05). The increase of selenium content in feed from 0.0 mg/kg to 0.3 mg/kg affected the fatty acid profile in breast muscle tissue by increasing portions of alfaLNA, EPA, DPA and DHA and total n3 PUFA, and by lowering portion of total SFA and MUFA.
