Description
  • The aim of our study was to characterize functioning and structure of microbial communities in three alluvial soils with different levels of organic pollutants (PAHs, PCBs HCH and DDT) and heavy metals (Cd, Hg, Pb, Zn, Cr, Ni). The chemical properties of soils have been partially altered by a heavy flood having occurred in the region (district Zlin, Czech Republic) in 1997. Following microbial parameters were used to identity stress situation in soil: intensity of mineralization and humification of soil organic substances, rate of asymbiotic N2 O fixation and accumulation of heavy metals in microbial biomass. In addition, diversity of soil bacterial community using both plate-dilution method and method of reassociation of denaturated DNA was studied. The results of statistical evaluation show, that microbiological characteristics of soils belonging to the relatively strongly contaminated ones, differ significantly from those of less contaminated (control) soil.
