Description	In the course of the twentieth century, multiple changes in the water regime occurred in the region of the Dyje-Morava floodplain (Czech Republic, south of Brno). The tree layer response was studied in 4 plots classified in the Querci roboris-fraxineta group of geobiocene types with the defined distinguished combinations of water regime changes. The subject of assessment was the radial growth of pedunculate oak (Quercus robur) and narrow-leaved ash (Fraxinus angustifolia) studied on the basis of dendrochronological analyses.The diameter growth in tree species is an unspecific reaction which is influenced by a great number of factors. In addition to the water regime changes it is also the weather which certainly has an important effect in individual years and combines with the effect of management measures and sometimes also with clear eatings. Yet, it appears that some growth responses and trends in oak and ash can be explained exactly by changes in the water regime.
