Description	The possibilities of controlling methods against European mistletoe (Viscum album) are summarized in this study. Several means of controlling mistletoes have been tested but direct methods, such as pruning of infected branches or removing infected trees, are still the only effective ways. We tested the effect of different herbicides, but we experienced successful results in case of using some systematic herbicides, such as 2,4-D or MCPA. Although, the chemical application was carried out during the calm period, we also observed some serious damage on the host tree. We started to study a specific hyperparasitic fungus (Phaeobotryosphaeria visci), which can completely destroy mistletoe by infecting its branches, leaves and berries; therefore it could be a successful candidate to develop an effective biological control agent against this plant. We also tested the possibilities of combined removal, e.g. mechanical and chemical as well as the effect of some herbicides on the mycelial growth, but none of them was proved to be useful. First, combined removal did not increase effectiveness, and second, the applied herbicides strongly decreased the mycelial growth or killed the spores. (en) V tejto štúdii boli zhrnuté možnosti potlačovania imela bieleho (Viscum album). Viaceré metódy boli vyskúšané, ale praktické metódy ako napr. rez alebo odstránenie napadnutých konárov iba jediná efektívna možnosť. Boli testované rôzne chemické látky ale úspešnosť v testoch preukázali iba systematicky pôsobiace herbicídy ako napr. 2,4-D alebo MCPA. Napriek tomu, že chemická aplikácia bola vykonaná v období vegetačného pokoja drevín, boli zaznamenané vážne poškodenia na hostiteľskej drevine. Taktiež bolo začaté skúmanie vplyvu špecifickej hyperparazitickej huby (Phaeobotryosphaeria visci), ktorá dokáže úplne zničiť imelo tým, že nakazí konáre, listy a plody imela. Táto huba by mohla byť potenciálnym kandidátom k vytvoreniu efektívneho biologického ničiteľa tejto rastliny. Taktiež boli testované možnosti odstránenia kombinovanou formou (mechanická s chemickým) alebo vplyvom herbicídov na tvorbu mycélia. V prvom prípade kombinovaná forma odstránenia nezvýšila efektivitu a v druhom aplikované herbicídy výrazne zničili rast mycélia resp. hubové spóry.
