Description	The fauna of wintering and hatching syrphids (Syrphidae, Diptera), their phenology, population dynamics and sex ratio were studied within the birch (Betula verrucosa Ehrh.) stands using the soil photoeclectors. Of 28 species, Syrphus ribesii, S. torvus, S. vitripennis, Platycherius peltatus, P. albimanus, Melanostoma scalare, Dasysyrphus venustus prevailed.
