Description
  • The described biotechnical measure is intended to increase the bearing capacity of forest roads in waterlogged places using forest biomass. Waterlogged places most often occur after floods or high precipitation. In history, these sections of roads were reinforced by corduroy roads. Currently, there are tendencies to revive this technology and replace pole timber used for corduroy roads with wood chips, i.e. replace manual installation of corduroy roads with machine installation of chipped forest biomass. The main advantage of this material is that it is renewable and no extraction or removal of earth accompanies its production as is the case with stone extraction. It is possible to use forest biomass from the place of construction so transport is not necessary. Moreover, we can use the local workforce and common construction equipment. The technology was verified by constructing a testing section and loading it with common traffic.
