Description
  • Water infiltration in soil and saturated hydraulic conductivity represent key factors in water runoff formation. Significant volumes of precipitations infiltrate and run off under the soil surface. The water that does not seep in the soil moves on the surface, which we define as Horton overland flow. Infiltration is decisive for the rate of this flow (e.g. Corradini et al., 1998). It is influenced by a number of factors, among which most authors also mention the contents of soil organic matter (SOM), both dead and living. For example, Franzluebbers (2002) points out that the mere SOM contents is not the only influence but that it is rather horizontal distribution of SOM in the surface soil layer.
