Description
  • Study area is situated on the island of the Nove Mlyny water reservoir, Czech Republic, South Moravian region. The island was built as a part of the biological corridor across water reservoir in 2001. The mud from the lake bottom was removed by suction dredger into space of circular stony dams. The succession of white willow community begun on the fresh surface of the mud immediately in the spring 2001. Methods. The size of research plot is 1000 square metres (20 by 50 m). There were regularly mesasured population density, trees height and girth at breast height each year. Each tree was marked by its own number since 2006. The positions of all trees and their biometric characteristics were measured using FieldMap technology (IFER) in 2010. The research plot is kept without any influence. The sample trees were cut out of this research plot. The sample trees were chosen according to representative GBH for different diameter classes. The drymass of leaves, shoots and stem was evaluated separately, the crown of sample trees was devided into one metre sections for this purpose. Twenty leaves from each crown section were taken for detailed analyses (leave area, specific leave density, chlorophyl content). The energy content in leaves, shoots and stem was measured in the calorimeter. The results will be presented as a models of development of: 1) population density and mortality, 2) biomass production (stem volume, total drymass, leave, shoots and stem drymass, energy content) 3) tree height, DBH and stand basal area 4) vertical leave distribution, LAI and chlorophyll unit Conclusion of study is evaluation of the development of White Willow comunity growth as a natural model of potential production capacity of this woody species. The results could be a good example for White Willow plantation along rivers in polders and riparian stands, where they should serve simultaneously as a biocorridors.
