Description
  • Armillaria cepistipes and A. gallica (Basidiomycota, Marasmiaceae) are macro- and micromorphologically very close species. In many cases, there are (almost) indistinguishable. Ecologically, A. gallica seems to prefer warmer areas in lowlands (oak and alluvial forests) while A. cepistipes is more common in hilly and lower montane beech forests. However, several localities with the presence of both species are known. The PCR-RFLP method based on ITS region of rDNA was applied for the identification of these species. Each of the species is characterised by the specific RFLP profile. On the contrary, some specimens with an intermediate profile were detected. The sequenation of the translation elongation factor 1-alpha showed higher interspecific variability and this gene seems to be more suitable to distinguish Armillaria gallica and A. cepistipes than ITS region. To reveal a possible interspecific hybridization between the two species, AFLP fingerprinting method was applied.

(cs)
