| Description
| - The Olešnice micro-region was chosen as an attempt to capture some of the problems of the municipalities situated at the outer boundary of the South Moravian Region. Through their location and situation, these come under the so-called inner peripheries i.e. under territories that do not develop economically, lose their population, become demographically old, have a hypothetically lower social and economic standard and a worse technical and social infrastructure. This article deals with the question of sustainability of the Olešnice peripheral area. The authors work on a hypothesis that from the natural and aesthetical point of view the Olešnice peripheral area is very valuable and has a strong recreational potential. The question is how local actors contribute to the development of the rural areas, what their relationships to the territory (place attachment) are and whether they are aware of the specific values offered by the area. The study is based on results of a questionnaire survey with local residents and also a comparative analysis of selected socio-demographical indicators of the Olešnice microregion and other peripheral rural areas in the region. The outcomes suggest that important requirements of sustainable development are not always included in everyday life of local people.
