Description
  • Our study was focused on the comparison of different zinc and manganese forms (organic, inorganic) and on their influence on the activity of superoxide dismutase in the heparin blood of breeding boars. The experimental group of animals showed higher SOD activity (181.3 +- 23.79 U/ml) than the control group (162.9 +- 30.37 U/ml) (P > 0.05). The assessment of zinc and copper level in blood plasma revealed that the experimental group of animals exhibited an insignificant increase of zinc (15.89 +- 4.34 mol/l) as compared with the control group (13.46 +- 2.27 mol/l). During the administration of organically bound microelements, a significant increase (P < 0.05) was observed in copper (27.33 +- 2.72 mol/l as compared with inorganic counterparts (24.68 +- 3.54 mol/l). We can deduce from these results that the administration of organically bound microelements of zinc and manganese can reduce oxidation stress by means of higher SOD activity in blood. It would be interesting to learn within our experiment whether a similar trend of higher SOD activity occurs under given conditions also in the ejaculate of the boars.
