Description	One of the most adverse consequences of visual impairment is its impact on spatial orientation and independent mobility. No matter whether the impairment is congenital or acquired during life the adaptability for this state and related development of special abilities needed for everyday life are crucial. One of these abilities is undoubtedly spatial orientation. The presentation informs about gradual development of this branch in Czech Republic and in particular about present situation concerning education of visually impaired on one hand and on the other instructors of spatial orientation. The Department of Special Education, Faculty of Education and The Department of Geo-Informatics, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Palacky University in Olomouc run GACR (The Grant Agency of the Academy of Sciences of the CR) research project concerning the possibility to affect macro-space perception by the means of micro-space knowledge (the name of the project is: Perception of Geospace by Modern Tactile Maps).
