Description
| - Understanding opinions and preferences of visitors to protected areas is one of the fundamental sources for setting up an appropriate tourism management in a number of protected areas. Communication with the visitors gives an important feedback for decision-making of the protected areas' administration. This kind of data can be used successfully e.g. when modifying public relations, controlling the numbers of visitors, including possible determination of limits for bearable load of the protected areas. That is why an extensive questionnaire survey was carried out in model mountain protected areas within the whole of the Czech Republic to find out the visitors' opinions about issues related to recreational use of protected areas and to nature conservancy. It was found out that the visitors' answers do not differ significantly among the single protected areas. A vast majority of visitors finds the main values of the respective protected areas in preserved nature and landscape, clean and healthy environment, peace and relaxation. They spend about one quarter of their time observing the nature and its beauty which gives a great potential for addressing the visitors with appropriate forms of interpretation of the local heritage. A vast majority of visitors have a very positive view of the state of nature in the respective protected area, as well as of the existence of protected areas itself. Therefore, institutional protection of nature is of great importance to the visitors. The results show that summer visitors give significant preference to activities of soft tourism. The biggest proportion of the visitors to the protected areas would welcome more information panels, more information centres and new hiking tracks in the highest parts of the mountain protected areas.
