Description	Nemen monografije je na geografsko celosten način, z več poudarka na naravnih razmerah, prikazati problematiko, ki izvira iz stika Slovenske Istre in Teržaškega zaliva. Stik lahko razumemo kot stik kopnega in morja, to je obala, za katero so značilna specifična stanja, procesi in problemi. Opazimo ga lahko tudi kot soočernje morskega (sredozemskega) in celiskega (sredneevropskega, tudi balkanskega), o čemer podrobneje razpravlja Baskar (2002). V geografiji pogosto razlagamo Tržaški zaliv in Slovensko Istro, skupaj z drugimi pokrajinami v zaledju Tržaškega zaliva, kot stik in prehod sredozemskega v dinarskokraški tip pokrajine (nekoliko manj v alpski in predalpski), z značilnim prepletanjem značilnosti obeh, kar pogosto označujemo kot obsredozemske, submediteranske ali zmerno sredozemske poteze. Zasnova monografije se zaradi ciljev, ki jih zasleduje, nekoliko razlikuje od tradicionalnega geografskega pristopa, ki temelji na sistematičnem opisovanju in razlaganju pokrajinotvornih elementov in povezav med njimi. Sistemtični pristop je nadgrajen s problemskim, rozvojnim in načrtovalskim, ta poudarja tudi nekatere razvojne vidike ob upoštevanju nosilnih sposobnosti obravnavanega območja. The monograph discusses the problems arising from the contact of Slovenian Istria with the Trieste Gulf in a geographically comprehensive manner laying particular emphasis on natural conditions. The contact can be understood as the contact between land and sea, i.e. the coast which is typical for specific states, processes and problems. It can also be understood as the confrontation of the maritime sphere (Mediterranean) with the continental one (Central-European, also Balkan). The Trieste Gulf and Slovenian Istria together with the landscapes in the hinterland of the Trieste Gulf, are often defined in geography as the contact of and the transition from the Mediterranean to the Dinaric-karst (slightly less to the Alpine and sub-Alpine) type of ladscape, with the interlacing features of the both, which are often marked as sub-Mediterranean of moderately-Mediterranean features.
