Description
| - Analysis of isomers is an important task of analytical chemistry. An unquestionable number of enzymes, factors, cofactors and also other biologically important compounds are isomeric. One of the most interesting groups of isomers is the group of optical isomers. Chiral analysis is generally based on applications of separation techniques or less commonly; it is based on spectroscopic approaches. Mass spectrometry can be labeled as an interesting alternative. Several mass spectrometric methods that are able to handle enantiomeric discriminations were developed, but most of them have only one of the potentially strong approaches. This method is based on a formation of trimer diastereoisomers that are composed of analyte (one ligand), reference (2 ligands), and all three ligands are coordinated by selected bivalent metal. These trimeric clusters are generated in the ion source (usually electrospray, but nano-electrospray or DESI can be used as well). Essentially, clusters can dissociate using two dis
