Description
  • A growing interest is recently devoted to the preparation and study of metal nanoparticles inspired by their potential applications in the field of biosensors, chemical sensors, catalysis, by their usage as substrates for surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and in fluorescence spectroscopy. This article is focused on the preparation and applications of silver nanoparticles, which are most frequently prepared by reduction of silver salt solution. Inorganic (sodium borohydride, hydrazine, hydrogen peroxide, hydrogen) as well as organic compounds (sodium citrate, ascorbic acid, formaldehyde, reducing sugars) are employed as reducing agents. Silver nanoparticles can also be prepared by silver salt solution photolysis or radiolysis. Other methods of preparation are developed as well, among them laser ablation yielding high purity nanoparticles especially suitable for SERS. An important task of the silver nanoparticles production is their stabilization and surface modification according to requiremen
