Description
  • There is a growing evidence that so called %22uncommon%22 polyamines like norspermidine (NSpd) and norspermine (NSpm) play important role in many cellular processes in plants similarly to their %22common%22 counterparts spermidine (Spd) and spermine (Spm). %22Uncommon%22 polyamines and their metabolism were thoroughly studied in thermophilic and halophilic bacteria, and were shown to be implicated in their adaptation to extreme environment. NSpd and NSpm also widely occur within eucaryotic algae, aquatic and leguminous plants and marine invertebrates and recently their amount was found to increase appreciably in plants exposed to abiotic stress. The origin and fate of NSpd and NSpm within plant polyamine metabolism remains unclear. The addition of aminopropyl moiety to diaminopropane could be catalyzed by aminopropyltransferase known from bacteria. An alternative synthetic pathway, involving the condensation of L-aspartic acid semialdehyde and diaminopropane may be operating in plants. In our research we tested
