  • The problem associated with the isolation, identification and analysis of phytohormones in a microalgae are considerable, although in general they are similar to those encountered with other endogenous plant substances, namely the purification and identification of submicrogram quantities of compounds from large amounts of interfering material, and their accurate and precise measurement. The development of much of the technology necessary to overcome these problems has taken place very recently. In the last decade, procedures described for phytohormone analysis as well as the available hardware have improved substantially, resulting in rapid, efficient, and highly sensitive methods that allow the analysis of different phytohormones starting from a minimal amount of microalgae tissue often as little as 10 - 50 mg.
