Description	Author describes the transformation of the theme of the American army. He is showing the changes in the ideological discourse from the Great Depression of the 1930s in the U.S.A. to the consequences of losing the war in Vietnam at the beginning of the 1970s. Westerns thus captured the gradual decline of the social status and authority of the U.S. military in the 20th century. The representation of the American army is also inextricably linked to the image of American Indians. (en) Autor popisuje transformaci obrazu americké armády v americkém westernu. Tato proměna poukazuje na změny v ideologickém diskurzu od velké hospodářské krize z třicátých let až po prohranou válku ve Vietnamu na počátku sedmdesátých let. Westerny zachytily postupný pokles sociálního postavení a autority americké armády v 20. století. Zobrazení americké armády je také neoddělitelně spojeno s obrazem indiánů, který se vyvíjel pod společenským tlakem na zrovnoprávnění nebělošských ras.
