Description
  • The sudden emergence of a veritable centre of philosophical studies in the Jewish community of early fifteenth-century Prague is explained by three different, though interconnected fators: (1) the popularization of philosophical teaching in the Latin Christian world (2) the passage of scientific knowledge from the universities to public urban space (3) the Hussite controversies. This thesis is demonstrated through an analysis of Menahem Shalem, Yomtov Lipman Muhlhausen, Eizek Tirna and Israel Bruna. Special attention is paid to the evidence from Moravia
