| - Resekce plíce je jedinou kurativní možností pro nemocné s plicní malignitou. Předpokladem úspěšnosti léčby je kompletní odstranění nádoru a nepřítomnost nádorových metastáz. Plicní nádory často při svém růstu zasahují do okolních struktur. Radikální operace zahrnuje plicní resekci a odstranění zasažených okolních struktur (hrudní stěna, bránice, perikard, velké cévy) za předpokladu vhodného lokálního nálezu. Nádory levostranného plicního hilu mohou zasahovat do oblasti aortálního oblouku či descendentní aorty. Resekce a náhrada aorty v této indikaci je poměrně výjimečným , ale za určitých okolností proveditelným výkonem. Hlavním rizikem výkonu na descendentní aortě je míšní ischémie při naložení svorky na aortu. Elektivně se proto tyto raritní výkony provádějí většinou v mimotělním oběhu. Pokud je však nutnost resekovat aortu potvrzena až peroperačně, jsou možnosti použití extrakorporální cirkulace limitovány.
