Description
| - Composts, which cannot often be used in agriculture, landscaping or land reclamation for legislative reasons, may be used for power-generation purposes. The gross calorific value of aged compost reaches 12 MJ/kg and it is conditioned by the abundance of majority components in the input materials. The content of volatile combustible (55%) is by about 10 % lower than in other biomass. The fixed carbon content reaches 10 %. In preparing fuel the carbon loss during the composting process may be eliminated by means of adding another component high in cellulose, e.g. waste cardboard. During composting organically combined alkali liberate and transfer into the water phase. The content of Na2O and K2O in the compost dry matter decreased by 20 % and the chlorine content dropped by 30%. A reduction in alkali content contributes to a low alkali index of the compost (0.11 – 0.12), which shall not manifest problems with slagging or fouling (alkali index value > 0.17).
