Description	In the context of the current economic crisis, the debate concerning the effects of fiscal policy on economic growth seems very important. Contemporary economic literature often deals with the issues of taxation or government spending and its influence on economic growth, but the fiscal policy lags remain neglected. The aim of this paper is thus to estimate the fiscal policy lag in developed countries. Results show that the effect of fiscal policy on growth is strongest after two years. Personal income tax including social security contributions harms the growth five times stronger in comparison with corporate taxes and it exhibits its effects with a lag of three years. In terms of the impact on economic growth, it is the least counterproductive to increase VAT, the effects of which are even slightly positive and manifest most strongly in the current period and only partly in subsequent periods.
