  • The Blob Issue symbolizes the very great distance in Czech society between a winning architectural project and its implementation. The renowned Czech architect Jan Kaplický won the international architectural competition organized by the International Union of Architects for a new National Library in Prague with a concept has come to be known as the %22Blob%22 or the %22Octopus%22. For certain municipal and government representatives, however, the dream of a new national soccer stadium is more attractive than the library. An architectural discussion has become a political dispute. A dispute has also arisen concerning whether the Blob project in fact won the competition in a valid manner.
