Description	The article deals with chosen problems of regional development in the Czech Republic from alternative perspective. As it is shown, the activities of the Department of Regional Economics at the Faculty of Economics, VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava are of high relevance just for the sake of numerous problems related to regional development. It is also argued that psychosocial characteristics of the population represent internal basis of external activities occurring in given territories, which considerably shapes territorial developmental processes.
