Description
  • The most common FGD technology consist of scrubbing the gas containing SO2 with slurry of lime and limestone. In certain areas of the scrubber, the neutralization reaction is only partial and leads to local formation of sulfuric acid. This acid combined with chlorides and/or fluorides derived from the coal or from the water of the slurry produces an aggressive environment. The data obtain from the test spools substantiate the percentage of molybdenum in chromium-nickel alloys in the deciding factor for its corrosion resistance. The choice of the materials is dictated by the halogen and acid contents of the medium and by the presence of deposits and wet/dry conditions. Localized corrosion can be most damaging particularly in the welds and heat affected zones.
