Description	Objective judgement of the quality of surfaces prepared by abrasive water jet is still insufficiently solved problem. The research aimed at this problem was started in the Laboratory of Liquid Jet at the Institute of Physics of the VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava in the year 2000. This contribution is aimed at presentation of the up-to-date development of the device for objective determination of surface quality including its problems and disadvantages of the selected optical method itself. Some results are presented, especially those related to the problems of reliability of the results obtained from the given method of surface quality determination and thus the applicability of the method in practice.
