Description
  • Ostrava was the biggest industrial city in the North of Moravia. Its development was based on heavy industry and coal mining. Coal mines were closed and heavy industry was depressed in the 90s of the 20th century. Completely (or at least partly) abandoned areas comprise about 7% of area of the city. A promising idea of future use is a basis for the first step of successful regeneration or revitalisation of these special areas. Most of the brownfields have been designated for a new industry use in the master plan of Ostrava without more detailed analysis of resulting efficiency. The model presented here is focused on the areas left after coal mining. The model is divided into three independent parts. The first of them is focused on a light industry. The second part is focused on possible housing use of these areas. The third part is interested in civil facilities like schools, administration, and sports areas. Each of these three parts has primary criteria of its own. As there are liquidated old shafts
