Description
  • The main aim of this study was to find how the extra load influences time and force course of the vertical jump. Two groups of university students (men, n = 18; women, n = 18) were asked to execute counter-movement vertical jump with arms excluded in four variants: without load and with extra load equal to 10%, 20%, and 30% of their body weight. The analysis of the ground reaction force during vertical jump provided us with 17 variables for further statistical processing (ANOVA, Statistica v8). Increased load resulted into small and statistically non-significant changes in measured time and force variables. We found only small extension in the total time of the take-off, caused by longer time of braking and accelerating phase. Increased load did not manifest in the increase in force impulse, only in regular reductions of jump height. Based on these results we can assert that extra load up to the 30% of body weight can be used in the training aimed at the development of take-off strength.
