| - With the aim to contribute to elucidation of the role of phytohormones in response of plants to adverse environmental conditions, seedlings of Phaseolus vulgaris, Nicotiana tabacum, Beta vulgaris, and Zea mays were immediately before imposition of water stress supplied with water (control), 100 M abscisic acid (ABA), or 10 M N6-benzyladenine (BA). In all four species, contents of chlorophylls and carotenoids were markedly decreased during water stress and after rehydration only in plants pre-treated with water but not in those pre-treated with ABA or BA. Contents of pigments of xanthophyll cycle increased during water stress more in plants pre-treated with ABA or BA than in those pre-treated with water, but the degree of their deepoxidation was highest in the later. Similarly, the efficiency of photosystem 2, determined as variable to maximal chlorophyll fluorescence ratio, was not markedly decreased in bean plants pre-treated with ABA or BA in contrast to those pre-treated with water. - S cílem přispět k objasnění úlohy fytohormonů v odpovědi rostlin na vodní stres, byly semenáčky fazolu, tabáku, cukrovky a kukuřice před nástupem stresu zality 100 M roztokem kyseliny abscisové (ABA) nebo 10 M roztokem benzyladeninu (BA). Obsah chlorofylů a karotenoidů byl v průběhu vodního stresu a následné rehydratace snížen pouze u kontrolních rostlin, zatímco zůstal zachován po předpůsobení ABA nebo BA. Obsah pigmentů xantofylového cyklu se zvyšoval více po předpůsobení ABA nebo BA, ale stupen jejich deepoxidace byl během vodního stresu nejvyšší u kontrolních rostlin. Také photochemická účinnost charakterizovaná poměrem variabilní a maximální fluorescence chlorofylu byla v průběhu stresu snížena pouze u kontrolních rostlin. U žádné varianty nedošlo k výraznému narušení ultrastruktury chloroplastů. Změny v obsahu škrobu byly závislé jak na druhu rostlin, tak na předpůsobení.
