Description
  • Based on a new, potentially tridentate radical ligand Qy•-, a semiquinoneimine with additional thioether S donor function, it has been possible to obtain a three-spin system (radical/metal/radical, [(Qy•-)CuII(Qy•-)]) with sterically unenforced non-planar copper(II) at the center. This unusual situation is caused by weak Cu-S interaction, an effect reminiscent of type 1 copper sites in proteins. In comparison to planar analogues (Chaudhuri, Wieghardt et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2001, 123, 2213) the distortion of the metal is responsible for a changed spin ground state as detected by EPR. Spectroelectrochemistry reveals a very strong ligand-to-ligand inter-valence charge transfer band at about 2000 nm for the anion [(Qy•-)CuII(Qy2-)]-. While anion radical ligands yield already unusual complexes with transition metals in %22normal%22 configurations, the possible distortion adds another dimension, as shown here, allowing for a striking switch of spin combinations.

  • Na základě nového, potenciálně tridentátního radikálového ligandu Qy•-, semichinoniminu s přídavnou thioetherickou S-donorovou funkcí, to bylo možné získat tří-spinový systém (radikál/kov/radikál, [(Qy•-) CuII(Qy•-)]) se nerovinnným Cu(II) centrem. Tato neobvyklá situace je způsobena slabou interakcí Cu-S, efekt připomíná měď v pozicích typu 1 v proteinech. Ve srovnání s rovinnými analogiemi (Chaudhuri, Wieghardt et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2001, 123, 2213 ) distorze kovu má za následek změněný spinový základní stav, což bylo prokázáno EPR spektroskopií. Spektroelektrochemie ukázuje intenzívní intervalenční pás přenosu náboje ligand-ligand u 2000 nm pro anion [(Qy•-) CuII(Qy2-)]-. Zatímco aniontové radikálové ligandy poskytují neobvyklé komplexy I s přechodovými kovy v %22normálních %22 konfiguracích, možná distorse přidává další rozměr, jak ukázáno zde, dovolující neobyčejné nastavení spinových kombinací.
