  • There are two open problems in the manufacturing of high-impact polystyrene (HIPS): (i) understanding the relation between the spatially 3D morphology of HIPS and its application properties, and (ii) understanding the process of formation of spatially 3D morphology of HIPS by first-principles models. The software developed in this contribution is addressing the latter problem. The formation of polybutadiene clusters in HIPS can be modelled as the migration of polybutadiene species against their concentration gradient caused by the nonlinear diffusion, where driving force of transport is the gradient of chemical potential. The modeling studies investigate the system styrene - polybutadiene and its spinodal decomposition into two phase system including the inversion of phases. The governing model equations are numerically solved in spatially 2D domains.

  • Při výrobě houževnatého polystyrenu (HIPS) jsou dva otevřené obecné problémy: (i) pochopení vztahu mezi prostorově 3D morfologií HIPS a aplikačními vlastnostmi, a (ii) pochopení precesu utvážení prostorově 3D morfologie HIPS. Software vyvinutý v tomto příspěvku se zabývá druhým z těchto problémů. Utváření polybutadienových (PB) domén v HIPS lze modelovat jako transport PB proti koncentračními gradientu, kde tento transport je řízen nelineární difuzí s gradientem chemického potenciálu jako hnací silou transportu. Modelovací studie zkoumá systém styren-polybutadien a jeho spinodální dekompozici ve dvoufázovém systému. Modelové rovnice jsou numericky řešeny v prostorově 2D doménách. (cs)
