Description
| - Tangential force affecting radial baffles in a flat-bottomed cylindrical mixing vesse stirred with pitched blade impellers was measured and experimental data are analyzed in this paper. Spatial distribution of mean force value along the baffle was determined. Maximum force effects are displayed at vessel bottom. Mean force value increases with decreasing impeller off-bottom clearance height. Spectral analysis of experimental data clearly demonstrated presence of a macro-instability (MI) related component embedded in total force. Dimensionless frequency of occurrence of the MI component is almost independent of stirring speed, position along the baffle and number of impeller blades and its mean value was about 0.07. Relative magnitude (QMI ) of the MI related component of the total force was evaluated in dependence on impeller frequency, axial position of measuring point in the vessel, number of impeller blades and impeller off-bottom clearance height.
