Description
  • The possibility that yeast cell population, degrading both naphthalene and phenanthrene, could enhance their uptake, if exposed to a humic substance, was proved. Moreover, the ultrathin sections of yeasts growing in the presence of a humate based substance revealed the electron-dense precipitations intimately associated with the outer part of abnormally thickened cell wall, containing increased levels of wall proteins, lipids, amino sugars, β-glucans, mannan and chitin. Furthermore, electron micrographs show cytological changes in the budding region. Detailed comparison of naphthalene / phenathrene uptake in the cell populations exposed and not exposed to three respective humate preparations shows that the enhancement of a PAH uptake varies as a function of humic preparation and the initial concentration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon. In this connection, the values of calculated Kb constants correspond to the effect of respective humic preparations and their experimental calculation seems

(cs)
