Description
  • The unicellular microorganisms naturally form multicellular communities which differentiate into specialize cells that bring a benefit to whole population. Predominant multicultural form of bacteria is called biofilm. Bacterial biofilms are generally described as surface associated community consisting of microcolonies surrounded by a matrix of exopolymers with varied composition. The characteristics of biofilm which are in focus of present research are the ability to withstand and degrade high concentration of various toxic substances. Gram-positive Rhodococcus erythropolis was chosen for our experiments. Bacteria were cultivated in mineral medium under different cultivation conditions. A several toxic substances were used as a sole carbon source (e.g.: phenol, aniline, catechol). The ability of bacterial cell to adhere on different polymer materials was tested by several methods: colorimetric method (staining and distaining of sessile cells with crystal violet), microscopic observation (fluorescen

Naše výsledky potvrdily předpoklad vyšší odolnosti biofilmu vůči toxickým látkám a schopnost rychlejší degradace těchto látek. (cs)
