Description
(cs)
  • Very few results have yet to be published on a biodegradation of gasoline vapors in flowing waste gases. For this reason, we initiated this investigation using a bench-scale biofilter with ID 50 mm and a bed height of 850 mm. An inexpensive fire clay chip media was used as a packing material. Loading tests were carried out at increasing gasoline inlet concentrations at the constant Empty Bed Retention Time (EBRT) of 16 min. Evaluating the removal rate and efficiency of aliphatic and aromatic fractions of the gasoline vapor, it was found that in a range of organic loading (OL) up to 17 g.m-3.h-1 the removal efficiency of aromatic hydrocarbons decreased from 90 to 70 % while that of the aliphatic components decreased much more significantly from 60 to 10 %. Microbial analyses characterized the strains and genera identification of the inoculum and of the biofilm after six months of gasoline degradation. Just two genera of fungi (Cladosporium, Penicillium) survived from the original microflora.
