Description
| - The main purpose of using anaesthetics in fisheries and aquaculture is to preventexcessive injuries to, and stressing of, fish whenever they have to be handled. Forexample, anaesthesia is required when fish are transported, weighed and sorted, or during various veterinary procedures, such as the administration of vaccines orsampling for biological fluids. Modern fish anaesthetics should meet a number of general requirements. The most important of these are that they should take effect rapidly, that the fish should be able to recover rapidly without damage, and that no residues are left in the fish. At the same time the anaesthetics should be highly soluble in water and harmless to both human beings and the environment. 2-phenoxyethanol (active substance ethylene glycol monophenyl ether - C8H10O2) is a promising anaesthetic agent not yet registered in the Czech Republic. With respect to this fact, research focused on investigating acute toxicity, examining histological tissue and determining 2-phenoxye
