Description
  • MTEB (cs)
  • Methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) is a synthetic compound that was developed as a technological solution to technology-derived problem created by air pollution from vehicle emissions. MTBE was added to gasoline with the intent to reduce air emissions, making the fuel burn cleaner. The presence of MTBE at a gasoline-contaminated site, however, complicates natural attenuation because MTBE plumes resist to natural biological degradation and can inhibit biodegradation of other fuel component. In this review the chemical and physical MTBE properties, its health effects and survey of MTBE remediation technologies are summarized. Substantial part of the survey is devoted to a biodegradation of MTBE under different environmental circumstances
