Description	Approximately equiatomic alloy of nickel and titanium, known as nitinol, possesses properties such as superelasticity and pseudoplasticity. Among various applications it is used for the production of many types of surgical implants. This material is commonly manufactured by vacuum induction melting (VIM) or by vacuum arc remelting (VAR) method. Unfortunately, these methods have some disadvantages. During the VIM process the melt can be polluted by carbon originated from graphite crucible. The VAR process must be repeated several times to achieve sufficient homogeneity of manufactured ingots.Reactive sintering could be an alternative to these commonly used methods.
