  • The Bi1-xCaxMnO3 and Bi1-xSrxMnO3 perovskites exhibit Mn3+/Mn4+ charge ordering. The physical and structural properties of these Bi-based manganites are rather different from rae-earth based ones. A remarkable feature concerns the grest stability of the charge order state, when charge ordering transition temperature (TCO) for Bi0.5Sr0.5MnO3 is significantly higher (525 K) than for Bi0.5Ca0.5MnO3 (345 K) and especially than that of analogous systems without Bi (250 K). An interest of Bi0.5Sr0.5MnO3 lies further in the fact that the charge ordering is accomplished already at room temperature, which makes it feasible to perform the high-resolution electron microscopy investigation. Therefore, the present work aims at crystal growth, and structural and physical characterisation of above mentioned systems.
