Description
| - The concept of cascaded electrolytic cells to reduce metal ion concentrations can be demonstrated both in the laboratory (at currents up to 20 Amp) and on a pilot plant (up to 200 Amp) where the benefits of progressive removal of metal ions in each reactor stage are shown. The mode of metal removal is such as to require minimal operator input, and this is a major advantage of the concept. The increased current efficiency - up to 75% for Cu and up to 80% for Ni - as compared with parallel plate cells (esp. at low metal ion concentrations) brings with it energy savings. The use of a particulate bed cascaded cell allows metals to be cost-effectively recovered, even at low concentrations, thereby making this type of installation an attractive proposition in a wide range of applications. The rotating cathode cell can be integrated into existing systems without any problems.
