Description
| - Rats are serious agricultural pests that are responsible for enormous losses (2–100%) in crops and stored food products worldwide. Rodents also transmit many human and animal pathogens, including Hantavirus sp., Leptospira sp. and Salmonella sp. When rats gnaw on electric wiring, the resulting threat of fire may endanger human life. An exact understanding of the physical properties of rat teeth is not only important for the future development of rat-proof construction materials, but the obtained knowledge may also be employed in human dental medicine due to the substantial structural and formation similarities between rat and human teeth. The aims of the present study are as follows: (1) to determinate the hardness (H) and reduced elastic modulus (Er) of dental enamel in rat incisors and (2) to test the homogeneity of dental enamel.
