| - The aim of this paper is to present preliminary results on the historical development and stand structure of the forest in the second zone of the Šumava NP. The result of this study should answer questions concerning forest history, forest naturalness and bring suggestion for future management. The analysis of the historical management plans, time series of aerial photographs and stand structure on the research plots were carried out. Based on the analysis of the historical management plans, the forest most probably originated after wind disturbance connected with bark beetle outbreak followed by some salvage logging activity in the end of the 19th century. Before the disturbance, the old-growth spruce mountain forests were presented in the area. The origin of the recent stand that established after the disturbance is therefore probably natural from advanced regeneration established before disturbance and natural regeneration that established after disturbance.
