Description
| - The French have low coronary heart disease mortality in spite of high fat consumption; this epidemiological anomaly is known as the “French Paradox” and is commonly attributed to the consumption of red wine. Moderate consumption of red wine has been associated with lowering the risk of developing coronary heart disease. Many authors found a close relationship between total phenolic content and total antioxidant potential for wines, esp. red wines in vitro. Wine polyphenols could reinforce the endogenous antioxidant system and thereby diminish oxidative damage. It was found that anthocyanidins inhibited malignant cell survival. Studies in longterm models to understand the relationship between the bioavailability of polyphenols and their biological effects are still lacking. The aim of this study was to prove the hypothesis that the antioxidant activity of red wine from Czech Republic has a positive impact on the antioxidant activity of blood plasma in rats in vivo, after longterm red wine consumpti
