Description
  • For verification of the cadmium effect on plant metabolism a pot experiment was set up using three Cd rates (30, 60, 90 mg.kg-1). Spinach (Spinacia oleracea L. cv. Matador) was used as the test plant in this study due to its high toxic element accumulation capacity and short growth period. Sequential analysis of spinach biomass showed effect of Cd rates on yields of substances contained in isolated fraction and different accumulations of Cd in these fractions according to treatment. The main phytoecdysteroid, 20-hydroxyecdysone in spinach significantly responded to the soil contamination causing its decreased content by the Cd highest rate. Decrease of 20-hydroxyecdysone content as a strongly polar compound is reflected in the decrease of plant cell membrane polarity. Allosteric regulation of glutamate kinase activity by free proline creates a possibility for an increase in glutamic acid content due to the synthesis of glutathione and subsequently phytochelatines in plant cells. For this reason the h
