| - Biological processes are studied in luvic chernozem setting-aside in the eight years experiment organized by the Department of Forage Crops and Grassland Management at Prague - Suchdol. Arable soil was set aside by sowing with grasses: Bromus catharticus Vahl., Arrhenatherum elatius (L.) Presl., Festuca pratensis Huds., Dactylis aschersoniana Graebn.; legumes: Trifolium repens L., Lotus corniculatus L., Medicago lupulina L., Medicago media Pers.; or with their mixtures. Ten microbiological parameters (microbial biomass carbon [MBC], carbon extractable by 0.5 mol/L K2SO4 [EC], basal and potential respiration [BR; PR], control and potential ammonification [CA; PA], control and potential nitrification [CN; PN], arylsulfatase activity [ASA] and two ratios: EC/MBC and MBC/Corg) stressed the excellent influence of mulching. Mulching (once respective twice per year) of pure cultures of grasses or legumes or their mixtures caused that these plots were at the top in soil biological evaluation using above me
