Description	The Sciomyzidae can colonize a great variety of moist to aquatic sites where hygrophilous snails find appropriate living conditions. Altogether 42 species of Sciomyzidae have been ascertained in the study area, which represents more than 54 per cent of the Czech fauna. Many species are associated with temporal or permanent waters of different type. The true aquatic larvae that vigorously attack aquatic snails are known in Elgiva cucularia, E. solicita, Ilione albiseta, Sepedon sphegea, S. spinipes and Tetanocera ferruginea, and they are presumed in T. hyalipennis and T. montana. Rather semi-aquatic situations are preferred by larvae of Hydromya dorsalis, Pherbellia argyra, P. griseola, P. ventralis, Pteromicra angustipennis, Sciomyza simplex, Tetanocera arrogans and T. silvatica and their larvae live at least partly as parasitoids.
